Happy Birthday Weekend, Luca

I started the day with Luca Guadagnino news (his next film Queer will be screening at NYFF in 59 days!) and I am going to end it that way as well, because it's his birthday this weekend! And since we won't be here to makr it then we're making it rnow. Our beloved Italian auteur is turning 53 on Saturday. To celebrate maybe go back and read all of my endless Call Me By Your Name writing, or just dig through our general and endless Luca archives. We sure are fans. And maybe in the comments tell us your favorite Luca movie or moments. What do you think of when you think of his work?

The Wolves of the Steppes

I don't know when, if ever, this movie will get a proper release here in the U.S., but I've just seen what will inevitably be one of the best movies of my year at the Fantasia Film Festival -- click on over to Pajiba to read my thoughts on Kazakh filmmaker Adilkhan Yerzhanov's Steppenwolf, a bleak-as-fuck war film that takes violence very very seriously while also being weirdly kind of funny, in the most harrowing sort of ways. In my review I shout out both Robert Zemeckis' Forrest Gump and the 1985 Soviet nightmare Come and See, if you'd like to have yourselves a lil' stroke trying to bridge the gap to put those two together. And yet somehow it all works, while starring one of the most vile lead characters I've ever witnessed. I even trotted out the word "masterpiece" which I never use for new movies (although I did hedge my bets with a "maybe" just in case). It's really a tremendous achievment to my eye -- an action movie that makes violence sickening. Anyway I really hope somebody releases it here in the States and I will keep my ear to the ground for that news.

Brandon Sklenar Nine Times

Congratulations to actor Brandon Sklenar, who has now captured my attention! I guess he plays the third leg (ahem) in the Blake Lively romantic triangle movie It Ends With Us out this weekend, about which I know nothing and care nothing -- it was a hit book right? Really though please don't tell me what it's about or if my description of it as a "romantic triangle" or if Brandon here is indeed playing "the third leg (ahem)" -- I will never ever in my life see this movie. But that's not your fault, Brandon, because as I said...

... you now have my attention! These photos are for Flaunt magazine and there's a whole interview with him over there and everything. Or there seem to be words between these photos -- probably as you're experiencing here, ignoring my words, I couldn't see the interview as I kept losing my eyesight from Brandon's hotness every time I scrolled through. So let's dispense with all of this chatter and get to the goods! Hit the jump for them photos...

Queer Takes New York

I figure it's about time that I start posting some Drew Starkey photos here on the site to get ahead of the curve for when Luca Guadanino shoots him and makes him seem like the sexiest thing on the earth in Queer, his upcoming William S. Burroughs adaptation starring Daniel Craig. These photos are via a February story in GQ (there are more at the link) and I share them today along with the wonderful news that the NYFF just announced that Queer will be the Spotlight Gala film at this year's fest. They have a really lengthy synopsis of the movie at that link if you feel so inclined -- Queer is somehow a book I've never read (I've had a copy for literal decades but it's just been sitting there all this time) and at this point I am just waiting for the movie's version and then I'll read the book. So I am not reading NYFF's lengthy synopsis, is my point. I know the general story and the sexiness that Luca' promised and that's certainly enough for me.

Good Morning, World

Happy Thursday to one and all and here's a birthday present for my boyfriend since it's his birthday today and he's a forever fan of the King -- some good ol' Elvis spiciness. Happy birthday, beloved!

Vroom Vroom, the Saying Goes

The Fantasia Fest in Montreal might've ended this past weekend -- and PS the Elijah Wood movie Bookworm that I reviewed on Monday just won the "Best International Feature" award -- but I'm still slowly but surely rolling out my reviews. Today comes my thoughts on first-time feature director Michael Pierro's gig economy horror flick Self Driver, which is about a ride-share driver who signs up for the wrong app, the devil's app, and rues the day! Read my thoughts here. I dug it -- it's the exact sort of lo-fi treat that I hope to uncover every year at Fantasia. I see weird and wild movies there that I'd never see anywhere else and I always leave happy I partook.

The Poster Next Door

The poster for Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door has arrived and in the grand tradition of Pedro Almodóvar Movie Posters it's a work of art that any sane person should want to hang on their wall. The obvious reference is of course Bergman's Persona, with two women's faces intermingling, but them being down at the bottom laid out like a landscape, like mountains, makes me think of the poster for Rosemary's Baby as well. I'm sure that was also thought of. Anyway I'm also including the Spanish version below just to prove that the font design on these is beautiful in any language...

Josh Hartnett Five Times

Yes it's the second Josh Hartnett photoshoot in as many days (see yesterday's here) but how could I resist -- he got photographed in front of bookshelves! He knows who he's talking to. I actually think these photos are from his own home -- it looks like the same spot he was photographed in last week here (Hartnett Hartnett everywhere!) and I know for a fact that was his own London home because they talked about it in that interview. It's a beautiful home, but I am not surprised -- Josh really does seem like a good dude who's got his shit together. The fun thing about this new shoot is it's for Interview Magazine and they have him chatting with his one-time O co-star Julia Stiles!

Flashback! They mention that they haven't spoken since then, too -- I always find that so funny, how we link these people together forever but they've peaced-out decades ago. Anyway also if you're curious what movie Josh is talking about when asked in the chat how he met his wife -- he says they met together on a movie where they played husband and wife but he refuses to name the film because he says it's the worst movie either of them have ever done -- the movie is Roland Joffé's 2015 film The Lovers; I did the homework. Has anybody seen that? The photos look terrible. But not Interview's photos -- hit the jump for the rest of beautiful Josh inside his beautiful home...

Good Morning, World

What? You thought I'd post...

... something besides the multiple videos...

of Jonathan Bailey drinking milk? You crazy.
That shit does a body good.

In all seriousness these sexy sexy videos are for a good cause -- go check out The Shameless Fund, which is working with brands (like Loews here) to fight the anti-LGBTQ+ laws being passed around the world. Jonny is using his sexy for good, not evil! (Although I hope he uses his sexy for evil a little bit in the bedroom, wink wink. Call me, Jonny!)

Good Night, We Said

Well I seem to have run out of things to say for the day, so that'll be our Tuesday. I kinda just want to run home, hopefully avoiding the big rainstorm about to hit NYC, and watch Prez-to-be Kamala Harris introduce her veep-to-be Tim Walz in Pennsylvania and maybe feel some f'ing hope in my empty chest cavity for a change. What a thought! Anyway on that note -- click here to donate to their campaign! Let's make it a killer day for fundraising for the good guys. And in return for all of these excellent, sexy vibes, I gift you with that photo of Oscar Isaac. You are welcome.

Josh Hartnett Three Times

These photos are coming at us via a new chat with the Trap star in the NYT -- read it right here (thx Mac) -- and I recommend clicking on the pictures, because they grow and grow. The pictures, I mean. They're 'uge! And if you missed my brief review of Trap, click here. I found it delightful, and even though my Hartnett-love never waned -- I refer everyone to our archives where I've been celebrating everything he's done over the years from Penny Dreadful to the masterpiece Exterminate All the Brutes -- I am 1000% here for his reinvigorated headliner status.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

The Sixth Sense (1999)

Stanley Cunningham: Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in this country. A lot of generations have lived here and died here. Almost any place you go in this city has a history and a story behind it. Even this school and the grounds it sits on. Can anyone guess what this building was used for a hundred years ago, before you went to this school, before I went to this school? Yes, Cole?
Cole: They used to hang people here.
Stanley Cunningham: No, uh, that, mm-mm, that's not correct. Uh, where'd you hear that?
Cole: They'd pull the people in, crying and kissing their families 'bye. People watching would spit at them.
Stanley Cunningham: Uh, Cole, this, this building was a legal courthouse. Laws were passed here. Some of the very first laws of this country. This whole building was full of, uh, lawyers, uh, lawmakers.
Cole: They were the ones that hanged everybody.

Happy 25 to M. Night Shyamalan's horror classic! For some reason I resisted loving this movie for a long time, but I have given up that ghost (ha) for awhile now. I think I used to just see it as its twist and nothing more? I don't really even remember now. But Shyamalan's second act as a filmmaker, which I mentioned in my review of Trap yesterday, has me appreciating him more than ever.

Good Morning, World

The last time I posted a red hot sexy photoshoot of actor Dino Fetscher I thought I had posted the red hot sexy photoshoot before, and hadn't -- welcome to today also, because I could've sworn I'd done the same with this shoot for Diaries99 magazine, but all I'd posted was one shot right here. (I had tweeted a couple, in my brain's weaker by the week defense.) Anyway this is a crime, and it shall not stand. I mean...

... look at this photoshoot. Red hot sexy doesn't even do the half of it justice. If you're unfamiliar Dino can be seen these days on Lee Pace's red hot sexy Apple+ sci-fi series Foundationwhere I am told he plays, much as he does in real life, a gay character (and yes the implication there that I somehow, ridiculously, still haven't started watching Foundation is the correct one, and I am dutifully ashamed by it don't worry) so that's nice. Lovely, even. Might I even say, "red hot sexy"? I might, even. Aaaaanyway hit the jump for the entire worth-the-click shoot...

Elijah Wood Bookworm Mania

I feel like I don't get the chance to sing Elijah Wood's praises nearly enough for how much I've come to like the dude, so I was very happy watching his latest movie Bookworm (which was the Opening Night film at this year's Fantasia Fest in Montreal) and realizing that I was watching an effortlessly winning performance from him -- perhaps his best to date? And so here was my chance! And sing his praises and the films I did over at Pajiba today in my review of the film, which reunites him with his Come To Daddy director Ant Timpson -- this is a lovely little family film with a dark edge that will hopefully find the right audience whenever it enters the world. Until then go read my review or if you'd prefer to stay spoiler-free until said prospective release date just hit the jump for some more photos of ol' blue eyes...

Hard Boards, Hard Bodies

The many, many times I have done posts celebrating Chris Hemsworth's Wetsuit Pursuits here on the site I have gone out of my way to edit out the other people in the photos (unless it was brother Liam because obviously) since Chris is the big hunky main show we're all coming for. (And coming for.) But today...

... I find myself thinking the dude he's seen surfing with here (via) is hella cute and him and Chris have a palpable chemistry in the photos and so he can stay. he can stay in the photos and he can stay in the fantasies I am going to go have about said photos as well. Hit the jump for the entire bunch...

Today's Fanboy Delusion

Today I'd rather be...

... reaching for heaven with Jeremy Allen White.

I'm sure you probably all remember the Calvin Klein photoshoot of The Bear star back in January -- you can see what I thought until today had been every single tidbit of it at this link. But the above photo only just made itself known to me today and where the hell were they hiding it? Why would you hide that?  Anyway now it's here and I am going to go have it tattooed up my inner thigh, bye.

Billy Magnussen Twelve Times

Too bad that this photo-shoot of Billy Magnusson in Numero Netherlands magazine didn't pop off last week so I could've shared it as his film Coup! hit theaters (and streaming as well I believe?) -- as I briefly mentioned Thursday I was underwhelmed by the movie (I just didn't buy a second of it) but as a vehicle for Billy's hotness it delivers and sometimes (every time) that is enough for me. (Although points deducted for Billy having a scene where his character strips naked in front of everybody and we don't see shit. How dare they!) Anyway there is also a chat with Billy in the mag which you can read at that first link up top or per usual if you just want the pictures I got just the pictures after the jump...
